Diego Marulanda & Pacandé hit the industry by storm in 1996 with the release of their debut album iLa Verraquera! that introduced the Canadian music scene to their original brand of driving Colombian percussion beats peppered with poetic and powerful lyrics. The indie album soared in sales and the band was soon touring throughout North America, performing at the Montreal and Toronto Jazz Festivals, the Winnipeg International Folk Music Festival and the 1999 Pan American Games.  Their debut album was followed by Por El Sol in 1998 that garnered a Juno Award nomination and El Otro Lado in 2001 that was nominated for Best Global Music Album during Canadian Music Week.
